Prof. Jane Taylor, noted South African scholar, playwright (Ubu and the Truth Commission [1988], with William Kentridge), cultural theorist, curator, and novelist (Of Wild Dogs [2005], The Transplant Men [2009]), will deliver a paper entitled “‘After After Cardenio:’ an unnatural moment in the history of Natural Philosophy” at the Queen Mary, University of London Drama research seminar, QUORUM.

Place: Film and Drama Studio, Arts2, Mile End campus, Queen Mary, University of London

Taylor will address the making of a new work of theatre, to recreate a ‘missing’ Shakespeare play, in response to a commission from Renaissance scholar Stephen Greenblatt, and considers the issue of the making of a post-colonial interpretation of a hypothetical classic text. Taylor will address ideas about the archive, the origins of modern bio-medical science, the work of puppetry,  the history of neurology, the body/soul split of early modernism, metropolitan…
